INTRODUCTION
Thanks for your interest in allowing WATERTON BRASS MUSIC™ to publish your brass ensemble music. We maintain an open call for submissions of original music and arrangements/transcriptions. Composers/Arrangers retain their copyright and help set the price. Composer/Arrangers can use us along with any other non-exclusive publishing agreements they have. We work with our Composers/Arrangers to ensure that their works and our publications are clearly-notated and free of errors. We also provide editorial guidance regarding the appropriateness and playability of instrument ranges and tessitura. We usually edit original compositions as little as possible. Our relationships are collaborative, not exploitative. We work WITH you to ensure your publication is the best possible. If you're not open to suggestions, then you should probably look elsewhere.
WHAT WE PUBLISH
As our name implies, we only publish works scored for brass instruments (of course, that can also include organ, percussion, etc.). We love working with composers and are proud to publish New Music, but we're not so interested in "experimental" music, including music with non-standard or extended notation. We do not publish music for concert band, orchestra, woodwind quintet, chorus, etc. Our agreement to publish and distribute your music is at-will and non-exclusive. Our agreement can be terminated at any time. We reserve the right to refuse to publish any music for any reason. We furthermore reserve the right to remove previously listed music with two weeks notice to you for any reason. Even furthermore than that, we reserve the right to update this policy from time to time at our discretion without notice.
COPYRIGHT
WBM does not infringe on the copyright of others. Composers/Arrangers are responsible for all copyright issues regarding their submissions. If you have an arrangement of a copyrighted work, you must provide all documentation granting you permission to do so, including a copy of you license agreement (if applicable). Generally, any work written in or before 1923 is in the Public Domain. You are also responsible for printing all copyright information on your score and parts. You agree to indemnify us (hold harmless) from any claims or other issues resulting from listing your music for sale. WBM is happy to assist you in tracking and making license payments to copyright holders of your arrangements.
MATERIALS TO SUBMIT - Electronic Submissions Only
We engrave all of our music with Sibelius®. If you already use Sibelius®, you can e-mail your .sib files. If you use Finale®, you will need to export your music files as MusicXML (.xml) format,
then e-mail your .xml file AND a PDF of the Finale file to help with an
accurate conversion into Sibelius. Recordings are recommended but not required. You can also send us program/performance notes to include in the score and a brief bio and photo for inclusion on our website. Your submission(s) must include all copyright information and, for arrangements, the original composer's name. If you need us to engrave your music (you do not have an electronic file), just send us the legible manuscript and we'll send you a quote for engraving labor. We'll provide you with the original Sibelius® file and a high-quality PDF for your records. We do not publish "manuscript" editions. Click here for suggested formatting guidelines.
IF WE ACCEPT YOU WORK
After a work has been accepted for publication, you will receive a publishing agreement. This must be signed and returned before any music is added to our catalog. In that agreement, you will certify that any original music is your own - or provide permission/license documentation if the arrangement is of a copyrighted work. You will also indicate how you will receive your royalty payments, either via PayPal® or check (U.S. residents only).
After we receive your publishing agreement, we will begin the editorial process. After all edits are agreed upon, you will receive a proof by e-mail. Once the proof is accepted, your music will be added to the catalog. After your music is sold, you will receive a statement (along with your royalty payment) at the end of the month in which it was sold. That statement will include the name of the title sold, sales venue (WBM website, Amazon, etc.), net profit of the sale, your commission, and the geographical location of the buyer. You will also receive a year-end summary statement for your records and for tax purposes.
ROYALTIES
We honor the creativity and artistry of our contributors by paying the industry's highest royalty rates. We pay royalties at the end of each month there is activity via PayPal® or check (U.S. residents only). Royalty percentages are calculated based on the net profit using the following schedule:
Original Music sold: 50% paid to you.
Arrangements sold: 40% paid to you.
LICENSING FEES
Currently, we do not register music with performing rights agencies (ASCAP®, BMI®, etc.).
Please contact us to discuss a mechanical license.
CUSTOMER TRANSACTIONS
Shipping usually occurs the next day if customers pay electronically. Online financial transactions are handled through PayPal®, Google® Checkout, and Amazon®. No customer financial information is ever stored by us. We maintain customer contact information and order information via a password-encrypted database stored on premises (not online).
