New music is important to us here at WatertonBrassMusic, and what better way to promote new music than to highlight new composers?  That is why is happy to provide a small scholarship to a high school junior or senior with a talent for composition.

ELIGIBILITY: Entrants must be graduating from High School in 2018 or 2019.  This scholarship is only available to residents of the United States.

CONTENT AND MUSICIANSHIP will be taken into account when judged.

TYPE OF ENTRY: Compositions must be for Brass Quintet (2 Trumpets in Bb, Horn in F, Trombone, Tuba).  We are looking for music that is accessible to high school or college level musicians.  

All Applications must be submitted by 11:59pm (Eastern time) on February 28th, 2018 to be considered.


1st place: $200 and inclusion in the catalog.

Finalists: Inclusion in the catalog.

Winners will be notified by May 1st, 2018.


All submissions must be submitted as a pdf, produced and notated via a notation software program or hand notated, scanned and emailed.

Digital recordings are required, but do not need to be produced by live musicians (Computer generated MIDI files are acceptable).  

By submitting your music, you are affirming that it is an original composition, not an arrangement, and that it has not been previously published.  You are also granting the right of first refusal and affirm that you will not seek other outlets of publication.

Finalists may be asked to provide a musicXML file from a notation software for inclusion in the catalog.

Each student may only submit one work for consideration.  If more than one work is received, only the most recent submission will be considered.

All applications must be received by the date of the deadline to be considered.
