Joseph Rosochacki
Joe
Rosochacki is a guitarist from the Detroit area, currently living in
West Palm Beach, Florida. He began studying the guitar at age eight with
Don Barr at the Americana Music Studio in Detroit; by thirteen, he was
playing professionally. Rosochacki received a B. M. in guitar
performance from the Eastern Michigan University, under the direction of
Dr. Nelson Amos; he also began his compositional studies there, under
the direction of Dr. Anthony Iannacone.
For his M. A., he has made a complete transcription for guitar of Kapsberger’s Libro primo d’intavolatura (Rome, 1611). Rosochacki has performed across Europe, notable in Athens, Rome, and Warsaw, and he has visited the People’s Republic of China, where he researched the music of the pi’pa, or Chinese lute. Midtown Waltz is part of a suite inspired by New York City; this movement evokes Central Park, which offers a quiet respite from the cacaphony of the city. Jazz voicings are juxtaposed with sixteenth-century counterpoint techniques, and references to Leonard Bernstein and Aaron Copland may be discerned.
