Lucas Floyd

Composer

Lucas Floyd is currently an undergraduate student at the Biola University Conservatory of Music, where he is working towards his BM in Composition. He has studied composition under Dr. Robert Denham, Dr. Lawrence Mumford, Christopher Wills, Alex Lu, Mike Watts, and Cliff Hulling. He loves combining traditional instruments in unique chamber pieces, as well as composing for standard ensembles. In addition to composing his own music, he has done numerous arrangements for churches and chapels. As a composer, he has won awards such as the Rayner Brown Composition Award in 2010, 2nd place in the Biola Composition Competition 2009, the Biola Professional Ensemble Recording Competition 2010 and 2009, and “Best Original Score” for the Biola Film Festival 2009.  Lucas is a member of ASCAP and SCI.

He is also a proficient oboist, currently studying under Los Angeles freelance oboist, Jane Green. After picking up the oboe in high school, he had the unique privilege of studying with Carlos Otárola, principle oboist of the National Symphony Orchestra of Peru – the country where he grew up. Now an LA resident, he has experience performing in chamber groups, university orchestras, operas and musicals, churches, as a soloist, and on student film scores. He teaches private lessons to local young oboe students.
